Poco Vineyard sits in the tops of the western part of the Eola Amity Hills at 725 ft in elevation with a slight camber to the northwest. Soil here is basaltic Jory and Nekia and fruit is lush and broad, producing succulent and juicy wines of great fruit and vibrancy.
Farming is carried out by owner Craig Hudson with supervision from wife Celeste whose design and tending of the exquisite property gardens sets the standard for the domain’s aesthetics. Craig is a recovering design engineer and lifelong STEM activist who has mentored many a kid keen on robotics. Putting that engineering street cred to work at home & vineyard, Craig is not off the grid but supplementing it, with a homespun solar array that produces enough power to cover the family’s domestic needs as well as donate power credits to a low-income assistance program. He also drives a solar powered car. But not just any car – a Destiny 2000 from the Naked Gun movies, aka that 1986 Pontiac Fiero covered in solar panels.
TASTING NOTES
To the 2021 Poco Vineyard Pinot Noir, a love letter. Be still my heart sweet tart and frangipani incense, honeysuckle rose, cinnamon sugar and red heart rising in fruit to beat the band. This tactful guest is an abundance of fruit and light and flowers, hovering with spice and floating sublime, full of sunshine, a joyful juice. Perfumed enough to pair with itself singing sarsaparilla cardamom huckleberry blood orange. Eclectic and electric, punchy as punch. Velvety, quenchy, resounding in flavor, a vermillion dream.
